Ingredients list with mechanism of action
MENTHOL
Counterirritant with cooling sensation. With transdermal penetration, menthol acts on various nerve pathways to reduce the perception of pain.
Camphor
Counterirritant with a warming sensation. With transdermal penetration, camphor desensitizes sensory nerves to reduce sensations of pain.
Methyl Salicylate (Extra Strength formula only) from Wintergreen Oil
Anti-inflammatory action by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis similar to that of NSAIDS (Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs) such as aspirin or ibuprofen.
Clove Bud essential oil
Nerve ending local anesthetic to reduce transmission of pain signals. Has some anti-inflammation activity due to high Eugenol composition.
Peppermint essential oil
Contributes to the effects of menthol on “cold receptors” and can cause vasodilation that aids in penetration of other topical substances.
Cedarwood essential oil
Anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic effects.
Rosemary essential oil
Anti-inflammatory, stimulates blood circulation to reduce pain.
Eucalyptus essential oil
Anti-inflammatory, stimulates blood flow to increase healing and reduce pain.
Ethanol
A much better choice of delivery vehicle or solvent than isopropyl alcohol. Ethanol has pain reducing properties as it reduces frequency and intensity of pain impulses by inhibition of nerve endings.
DMSO
Penetrating enhancing properties that deliver the ingredients through the skin into the tissue and nerve endings where they can exert their desired effects.

How it Works
Our Vitamin C Serum has been formulated to deliver an effective dose of Vitamin C into your skin. Using the more stable form, Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, we are able to reduce the oxidative effects more commonly experienced with other forms of topical Vitamin C. Our users have experienced skin brightening, reduction in the appearance of photo-ageing, improvement in elasticity and wrinkle reduction, as well as a balance of overall skin tone.
The Serum also contains 3% Hyaluronic Acid which is a natural component of our more youthful skin that diminishes with age. Replacing the skin’s level of hyaluronic acid can improve collagen production, reduce skin dullness and, most importantly, help the skin retain water which has a plumping effect to smooth out wrinkles and lines.
Frequently asked questions
We are happy to answer all your questions about our products. Here are some of the frequently asked questions.
1. How Do we use PRN?
Using PRN is really simple! Simply remove the plastic spray cover, and spray onto your skin around the affected joint or muscle. You will feel a warming sensation almost immediately as PRN starts to work. For more sensitive areas, such as the back of your neck, start with a light spray until you know what it feels like before spraying on more.
2. What can I do to maximize my relief from PRN?
There has been a significant increase in relief felt by users who apply Pain Relief Now to the lower spine in addition to applying to the area in pain. In other words, If your knee is in pain, apply several sprays around the knee area and then apply several sprays to the lower back. The application to the lower back serves as a secondary opportunity to reduce the frequency and severity of “pain signals” from traveling to the brain.
3. What types of pain has PRN Pain Relief Now been successful in treating?
Almost any type of mild to moderate painful conditions or injuries have been effectively managed with PRN. Our repeat customer base includes those with fibromyalgia, arthritis, sciatica nerve pain, sore joints, sore backs (including painful back spasms), muscle pain, and headaches.
4. Your product is more expensive than some of the other topical pain relievers available. How do you justify your price?
PRN Pain Relief Now is more expensive than some topical pain relievers on the Canadian market today, and less expensive than others. We could have created the cheapest pain spray possible if we wanted to, but Mountain Medicinals endeavored to create a quality product that actually works and would be recommended to others by the people using it. We strongly believe you are getting a product with active ingredients in amounts that will work to relieve your pain at a reasonable price. We want to have repeat customers that recommend PRN to their families and friends. This is what will separate a mediocre product from great product.
5. Why do you use a metal bottle? Are essential oils safe to be stored in a plastic containers?
The scientific community recommends that essential oils be stored in glass or metal containers. In low concentrations, or highly diluted like some of our competitors, the oils may be incompatible with plastic. Due to our use of pharmaceutical grade Essential Oils in more potent concentrations, we insist in packaging our product in the appropriate metal bottles.
6. What is the difference between PRN and other products such as BioFreeze, Tiger Balm, or Icy-Hot?
BioFreeze™ vs Pain Relief Now™
BioFreeze™
BioFreeze contains the medicinal ingredient menthol ranging in concentrations from 3-13% depending on the version of the product. (spray, roll on, gel etc..)
Menthol belongs to the class of topical pain relivers known as “counter-irritants” whereby its application to the skin causes a rapid sensation of cooling. This cooling effect distracts the brain from the underlying pain and the perception of pain is diminished as the focus is transferred to the signals coming from the temperature receptors in the skin and not the signals of pain coming from the sore muscle or joint.
This is the same principal for the warming ingredient camphor that is found in Tiger Balm ™ and other “heating” topical products.
Pain Relief Now™ (PRN)
Pain Relief Now™ (PRN) was created in response to individuals who were not getting the desired relief from the topical pain relievers on the market.
Since menthol and camphor have been used successfully by many companies either as single ingredient products (Biofreeze, TigerBalm) or in combination (Icy-Hot) they have been included in PRN. From a science standpoint, anyone that experiences pain relief from a menthol or camphor based topical product, will receive the same or better relief from PRN as the ingredients overlap. PRN was designed to be given to individuals who failed to find relief from the traditional topical products. In addition to the menthol and camphor there are 7, (8 if you include the ethanol), other ingredients that have scientific evidence of being beneficial individually for various types and degrees of pain. With PRN, most aspects of pain are addressed. Inflammation, Spasms, Muscle Pain, Joint Pain and even Nerve Pain are relieved by these ingredients. The addition of the DMSO really sets this apart from all the other topical pain relievers as this helps gets these ingredients through the skin and past the point of just being another “counter-irritant” which it certainly is as well, to affecting the actual tissue, muscle, joint or nerve that is the source of the pain.
PRN was developed in the pharmacy lab to be an all encompassing topical pain reliver for those who needed more relief than the other topical products could provide. The focus was on making PRN work. All of the ingredients, including those listed as non-medicinal (which was done to prevent easily copying the formula by others) are included in PRN at effective concentrations.
Pain Relief Now should be the best topical pain reliever on the market based on the ingredients and the concentrations of these ingredients. The use of ethanol instead of isopropyl alcohol also has its advantages. However, because the sensation of pain from an injury or disease is interpreted by a persons brain, the perception of pain and subsequently the relief of this pain, can be highly subjective and vary greatly between individuals.
For example, two separate individuals who experience similar broken arms may have completely opposite pain responses. One may be in constant pain and require multiple pain relieving medications and still have a very low level of function. The other individual may require very little or no pain medication and continue performing most of their daily tasks with minor adjustments. This is largely why the pain reliever market is so large with so many products. Each product will have those that will claim that it works better than everything else.
In almost every case where PRN has been substituted for another topical pain reliever, the individual has continued to use PRN.
